About CPHS Color Guard

Color Guard, known nationwide as the “sport of the arts”, is one of the fastest growing activities in today’s high schools. It is a high energy sport that advances students into a new area of performing and visual arts, including dance, gymnastics, theater, acrobatics, equipment manipulation (including flags, rifles, sabers and other props), and visual color. A variety of dance idioms are incorporated, including ballet, jazz, and modern styles.

feb7 (143)-X2The Cedar Park High School Color Guard is comprised of CPHS students, 9th-12th grade. Any student enrolled is eligible to join! In the fall, the CPHS Color Guard participates with the 4A State Champion marching band in football games and competitive performances around the state. In the winter, the color guard performs visual shows set to music in an indoor setting, and travels as a group to compete with other color guards. No stranger to success, the Cedar Park Color Guard has won state championships two of the last 3 years!

The best part of color guard, however, is not necessarily the dance, equipment, props, championships or trips. Guard Closer 1Participation in the color guard promotes the development of physical fitness, self-confidence, discipline and other life skills. Color guard members become a family for one another throughout their high school experience.

Participation in the CPHS Color Guard requires only one class period: a “single blocked” class. Additionally, students who participate receive fine arts credit and PE credit! To sign up, all students need to do is visit, call or email a Cedar Park High School guidance counselor!
