On With The Show
“Come one, come ALL! See acts that are sure to AMAZE!” The Showman’s voice jumps with each word, as his gaze sweeps over those in the eager throng waiting to enter the Big Top. “Gleaming and glittering with gold, and wondrous surprises for young and old,” he continues, ramping the crowd to anticipation as The Show is about to begin…
The Showman’s voice, along with the circus and all its amazing acts, may have faded into history. However, the enduring memory of the spectacle lives on, and for none more so than The Showman himself.
“On With The Show” presents elements of a circus juxtaposed with the aging three-ringed act and the diminishing popularity of the Big Top. Throughout the show we present “memories” of the once grand and colorful “Greatest Show on Earth”. Each memory is broken up by our Showman and his ever‐growing realization that the end of the circus is inevitable. This work is inspired by the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus and their commitment to bringing entertainment to people nationwide for 146 years.
Where does my donation go?
- “On With The Show” needs props, which include performance tops (which cost $22,000) and field pieces.
- In order to “Move and Inspire”, we need to be mobile! Donations help defray costs for charter buses, prop trucks, etc. We need $17,000 to help pay for transportation costs this year!
- Students need help putting together an amazing show, both visually and musically! This includes techs, Master Class teachers, instruments, etc.
- Big Green needed a costume change! That costs money (of course)!
